David James advises Chelsea to buy Harry Maguire

Former England goalkeeper David James claims that Chelsea will get a top midfielder if they recruit Harry Maguire from Man United.

In the summer transfer window of 2022, Chelsea have targeted Maguire if the Wesley Fofana deal is not successful. In the end, the Blues had to spend big money to get Fofana from Leicester City.

James advised Chelsea to buy Maguire.

However, Chelsea's link with the Man United defender has not disappeared. A few weeks ago, Football London reported that the Red Devils could demand as low as £25m for the player they spent £80m on from Leicester City in 2019.

Speaking to The Games Cabin, David James said: "I just hope he has a great World Cup and returns to the Man United squad. I hope this is a turning point in Maguire's career, to when he looks back and can say 'it was a tough time but I got through it brilliantly'.

If the club had decided to sell Maguire, then Chelsea or whoever signed him would get a top-class player."

Maguire remains under contract at Old Trafford until the summer of 2025, with the option of a one-year extension (Transfermarkt). The 29-year-old hasn't had a great time in Manchester in about a year. However, he has been a star for England in the ongoing World Cup, or both the 2018 World Cup and EURO 2020.
